Kait lives in Minnesota, and I live in Wisconsin, and there’s not a mountain to speak of anywhere near where we live. Fast forward to our bike ride today, where we climbed Sherman Pass, elevation 5,574 feet. We climbed it from Kettle Falls, so we totaled 3,814 feet over 23 miles. It was a good experience–not something you want to do on a regular basis, but good to do upon the rare occasion when you want to see what you’re capable of.

The people who live here in the Pacific Northwest must love cycling over these mountain passes. For us mid-westerners, it’s a rare treat.

A rest break heading to the summit.
